Why You Shouldn't Attempt To Bleach Your Hair At Home

It should go without saying that bleaching your hair at home is never a good idea, but we constantly see men and women come into our salon who have made this mistake and seriously regret it.
 
While it may be tempting to bleach your hair at home to cut costs, there are a number of major reasons that you shouldn't.

Here are just a few of the big ones. 

Bleach is in itself a chemical compound, and there are dangers that come with that. Trained hairdressers are experts in handling bleach, but it can be a hazard in unqualified hands.

Bleach contains all kinds of harsh chemicals, including hydrogen peroxide and ammonia, and it is entirely possible to suffer chemical burns when handling it.

Leaving bleach on for too long or not having the right equipment can also increase the risk of burning yourself with bleach. In addition, bleaching your hair in a room that isn't properly ventilated can also be extremely dangerous to inhale. Leave it to the experts.

Bleach will always cause some sort of damage to your hair, but it is the most likely to ruin the quality of your hair when in the hands of someone who isn't experienced with the strong chemical.

Bleaching strips your hair of moisture and dries it out, but when applied by an expert hairstylist, this damage can be minimised or mitigated.
 
Haphazardly applying bleach when you don't have the know-how to use it will only intensify this damage. 

You probably know someone who has had a bad bleach job - or you have tried it yourself.  The risk of bleached hair looking unsightly is usually increased when done at home by people who aren't trained in using it.
 
It takes years for a hairdresser to be fully trained to bleach and colour hair correctly, and training with bleach is perhaps the most difficult to master.

Add to that the understanding of things like toners or developers, the skill of properly applying bleach in different ways and the knowledge of how to fix bleach mistakes, and you'll understand why bleach should only be in the hands of trained experts.
